Program Description & Educational Objectives

This activity is third of three activities in an educational curriculum designed to increase the knowledge and competence of neurologists with respect to optimally balancing the benefits and risks of disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). In this case-based activity, an expert in the management of this disease discusses the practical applications of Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) for selected therapies in MS, as well as strategies for assessing, stratifying, and mitigating the risks associated with available DMTs for patients with this disease. Recent data on emerging therapies and their potential implications on risk assessment and mitigation in patients with MS are also discussed.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Assess the benefits and potential risks associated with available and emerging therapies for the treatment of multiple sclerosis
• Propose effective risk-benefit algorithms for treatment selection in individual patients with MS that include risk assessment and stratification
• Apply established criteria for the diagnosis of MS, as well as potential strategies designed to mitigate the risk of adverse events associated with available disease-modifying therapies

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of neurologists, physicians’ assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the management of MS.

Requirements for Successful Completion

In order to receive credit, participants must view the activity and complete the post-test and evaluation form. There are no pre-requisites and there is no fee to participate in this activity or to receive CME/CNE/CPE credit.
