After completing the material in this article, the learner should be able to:
1. Describe the embryologic etiology of pyriform sinus fistula;
2. Cite factors which may be responsible for the inability of a barium swallow to demonstrate a pyriform sinus fistula; and
3. Distinguish between the presentation of pyriform sinus fistula in neonates versus older children.
