Course Description

After completing the material in this article, the learner should be able to:
1. List proposed categories for classification of idiopathic interstitial pneumonias;
2. Discuss why the term “inconsistent with UIP” can be misleading;
3. List the typical features of pulmonary fibrosis in a usual interstitial pneumonia pattern; and
4. Evaluate when open lung biopsy may be necessary to diagnose the underlying cause of interstitial lung disease.
