After reading this article, the learner should be able to:
- recognize that patients with a fenestrated Fontan procedure will have less chest tube drainage, lower pulmonary artery pressures, and lower oxygen saturations when compared with patients undergoing a nonfenestrated Fontan procedure.
- recognize that the use of a fenestrated Fontan procedure does not reduce the risk for early death or Fontan failure when compared with patients undergoing a nonfenestrated Fontan procedure.
- recognize that in this study, patients with a fenestrated Fontan procedure did not appear to have a higher risk of stroke than patients with a nonfenestrated Fontan procedure.
- recognize that the use of a fenestrated Fontan procedure did not appear to reduce length of hospital stay though when compared with patients with a nonfenestrated Fontan procedure.
