Course Description

The main goals of this course are to provide knowledge and skills about an accurate understanding of normal and abnormal pubertal development and common variants is necessary to recognize the need for further investigation or referral.
After completing this course, you will be able to:
• Discuss the clinical signs of puberty, their usual sequence of appearance, and their typical rate of progression.
• Identify the signs and symptoms of delayed and precocious puberty.
• Identify key components of the history and physical examination to improve appropriate interpretation of pubertal patterns and identification of pathological states.
• Outline a follow-up and educational plan for a child with pubertal variations from normal.
• Determine when lab testing prior to referral is most likely to be helpful and when testing is of limited value.
• Identify indications for an endocrine referral for a child with a pubertal variation.
