Activity Description and Educational Objectives

After years of modest or little progress in developing effective and more flexible therapies for patients with AML, newer therapeutic options are inaugurating a more personalized approach to disease management that utilizes a range of important scientific insights on new agent classes and modern prognostic assessment.

In this activity, an expert in AML will analyze and interpret recent clinical findings that speak to the rapidly changing management landscape in AML, including the clinical and prognostic implications of cytogenetics, mutation status, older age, and comorbidities in AML management, and will discuss how to apply new evidence to develop personalized regimens that include novel therapeutics—including recently validated agents such as newer cytotoxic formulations, FLT3 and IDH inhibitors, among others—for patients with newly diagnosed or relapsed/refractory AML.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
  • Summarize the clinical and prognostic implications of cytogenetics, mutation status, older age, and comorbidities in AML management
  • Cite updated efficacy and safety data on a range of novel therapeutics in AML, including newer targeted, cytotoxic, immune- and antibody-based strategies, in a range of patient populations
  • Select personalized regimens that include novel therapeutics for patients with newly diagnosed or relapsed/refractory AML
  • Manage safety issues related to the use of novel therapeutics used in patients with AML

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of hematologists, oncologists, oncology nurses, and other clinicians involved in treating acute myeloid leukemia.

Nursing Education Purpose Statement

The purpose of this activity is to improve knowledge and competence of nurses concerning the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia.

Requirements for Successful Completion

In order to receive credit, participants must view the activity and complete the post-test and evaluation form. A score of 70% or higher is needed to obtain CME/CE credit. There are no pre-requisites and there is no fee to participate in this activity or to receive CME/CE credit. Statements of Credit are awarded upon successful completion of the post-test and evaluation form.
