• understand that primary graft dysfunction is a common cause for postoperative mortality among lung transplant recipients
• become aware that use of veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support for primary graft dysfunction is beneficial in terms of supporting patients who develop primary graft dysfunction
• understand that use of ECMO support for primary graft dysfunction is associated with a decrement in early allograft survival compared to those transplant recipients who never required ECMO support posttransplant
