Obesity is a complex, chronic disease. This educational program will provide health care providers with practical knowledge to optimally manage patients with overweight and obesity, as well as strategies for improving patient interaction and communication techniques. Expert faculty will discuss the latest guideline recommendations and lend their insight into managing complex patients with various comorbid conditions through case-based presentations. The program will feature Wheel of Obesity Knowledge, a gaming segment that will reinforce topics discussed in the preceding didactic presentations. In addition, a patient will share her journey, highlighting the importance of patient involvement and shared decision making in the management of patients with overweight and obesity.

Target Audience

The intended audience for this activity is endocrinologists, internists, family physicians, and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of patients with overweight and obesity.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this educational activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Review revised evidence-based guidelines and recommendations as they pertain to the overall management of obesity and other comorbidities to assist in clinical decision making.
  • Incorporate novel patient interaction and communication techniques that may improve adherence to prescribed therapeutic regimens.
  • Apply therapeutic modalities that optimize the safe and effective treatment of overweight and obesity in patients with comorbidities.
  • Incorporate the use of adjunctive pharmacotherapy and bariatric surgery as needed for obesity management based on patients’ characteristics, comorbidities, and individual needs.
