Course Description

After completing this CME module, participants will be able to

1. Discuss the rationale and advantages of minimally invasive versus open technique in the treatment of spinal conditions.
2. Describe the specialized instruments, viewing technologies, and implants used in minimally invasive spine surgery.
3. Describe the minimally invasive interlaminar decompression/diskectomy procedure used in the treatment of symptomatic radiculopathy, including indications, contraindications, surgical procedure steps, principles, pearls, pitfalls, complications, and postoperative rehabilitation.
4. Describe the minimally invasive lateral extraforaminal decompression/diskectomy procedure used in the treatment of symptomatic radiculopathy, including indications, contraindications, surgical procedure steps, principles, pearls, pitfalls, complications, and postoperative rehabilitation.
5. Discuss various types of minimally invasive lumbar fusion procedures (posterolateral fusion, PLIF, TLIF), including indications, contraindications, surgical procedure steps, principles, pearls, pitfalls, complications, and postoperative rehabilitation.
