Course Description

After reading this article, the learner should be able to:
- discuss the issues concerning the use of VAD use as a bridge to transplantation in a pediatric population.
- explain the benefit of employing a modified recirculation shunt when using an “adult” VAD in a low weight child or infant.
- compare the benefits of using a VAD with an in line oxygenator over the use of ECMO in children and infants.
