Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of physicians involved in the management of patients with neurodegenerative diseases, such as multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s disease (PD), and Alzheimer’s disease (AD).

Statement of Need/ Program Overview

Neurologists caring for patients with chronic, often nonfatal, neurodegenerative diseases continue to need information on basic disease pathology, etiology, indicators of disease progression, and available treatment to achieve the best outcomes for their patients, who require management over a relatively long period of time (>5 years). Research in the field of neurodegenerative illnesses is constantly yielding new insights and findings that alter the understanding of the underlying disease processes, and much of this research is presented at scientific congresses, such as the annual meeting of the American Academy of Neurology. Neura Covers presents the most relevant and up-to-date data on neurodegenerative diseases to reach a larger part of the neurologist community.

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to 1) compare results of clinical trial data on treatments that are currently available or under investigation for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, 2) communicate risks and benefits of various treatment approaches, 3) integrate emerging evidence-based approaches into the management of respective neurodegenerative diseases and within special patient populations, and 4) describe the impact of neurodegenerative disease symptoms and characteristics on patient functioning and quality of life.
