Donald P. Kotler, MD will present the Overview of CVD and HIV Infection. He is the Professor of Medicine at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and Chief of Gastroenterology at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City, where he also is Director of the GI training program. During this presentation he will discuss the potential mechanisms for the increased incidence of CVD in HIV-infected individuals, the additional contribution of modifiable CV risk factors to CVD in HIV-infected individuals and explain how chronic inflammation may contribute to incident CVD in HIV-infected individuals and how ART can modify this effect both positively and negatively.

This activity, Initiative to Decrease Cardiovascular Risk and Increase Quality of Care for Patients Living with HIV/AIDS Web Course, has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 3 Prescribed credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians. AAFP accreditation begins December 14, 2009. Term of approval is for two years from this date. Each web course is approved for 1 Prescribed credit.

AAPA accepts Category I credit from AOACCME, Prescribed credit from AAFP, and AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM from organizations accredited by ACCME.
