Activity Description and Educational Objectives

In this activity, oncology nurse practitioners provide an up-to-date view of the latest treatment options and emerging strategies for managing patients with pancreatic cancer; they also highlight resources for communicating with patients about their disease and treatment-related complications, and present an overview of current clinical trial options.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the safety and efficacy of approved and emerging therapies for advanced pancreatic cancer
  • Counsel patients with advanced pancreatic cancer about disease symptoms and the risks and benefits of treatment options, including treatment-related complications and strategies to manage them
  • Communicate with patients regarding enrollment in ongoing clinical trials investigating the new cytotoxic platforms and combination regimens for patients with pancreatic cancer in a range of disease settings
  • Provide appropriate disease- and treatment-related education and guidance to patients with pancreatic cancer and their caregivers to promote shared decision-making and patient-centered care

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of oncology advanced practice clinicians, nurses, and other professionals involved in the management of pancreatic cancer.

Nursing Education Purpose Statement

The purpose of this activity is to improve knowledge and competence of nurses concerning the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

Requirements for Successful Completion

In order to receive credit, participants must view the activity and complete the post-test and evaluation form. A score of 70% or higher is needed to obtain CE credit. There are no pre-requisites and there is no fee to participate in this activity or to receive CE credit. Statements of Credit are awarded upon successful completion of the post-test and evaluation form.
