Program Description & Educational Objectives

This activity is the second of three activities in an educational curriculum designed to increase the knowledge and competence of neurologists with respect to optimally balancing the benefits and risks of disease-modifying therapies in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). In this activity, experts in the management of this disease review the events that led to the institution of Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) in the United States, highlight the REMS requirements for selected therapies in MS, and provide practical strategies for assessing, stratifying, and mitigating the risks associated with available disease-modifying therapies in patients with this disease.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Explain the rationale for Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) as to ensure the benefits of certain medications outweigh the risks
• Discuss established and potential strategies design to mitigate the risks of adverse events associated with available disease-modifying therapies in patients with multiple sclerosis

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of neurologists, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the management of MS.

Requirements for Successful Completion

In order to receive credit, participants must view the activity and complete the post-test and evaluation form. There are no pre-requisites and there is no fee to participate in this activity or to receive CME/CNE/CPE credit.
