LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

- State to what degree a recent surgery was associated with an increased risk for Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) even after adjustment for other known risk factors such as infection in this study
- Identify types of surgical procedures that were associated with a higher risk of developing GBS during the postoperative period in this study
- Describe how various patient-specific and surgery-specific variables impacted the association between surgery and risk of developing GBS in this study
