- apply pH levels in pleural fluid lower in diagnosis of suspected infectious pleural effusions.
- describe the usual cellular composition of complicated parapneumonic effusions, including relative proportions of types of leukocytes present.
- describe the potential utility of measuring proinflammatory interleukins IL-1 and IL-8 in pleural fluid from complicated parapneumonic effusions.
