Activity Description

In this infographic-based activity, an expert in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) discusses key characteristics of high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) patterns that differentiate usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) from probable UIP, indeterminate for UIP, and non-IPF; how to decide whether a patient should undergo a lung biopsy; and implementation of new clinical guidelines for diagnosing IPF.

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of pulmonologists, radiologists, pathologists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients with pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
  • Differentiate UIP from probable UIP, indeterminate for UIP, and non-IPF lung disease according to HRCT scanning patterns
  • Select patients who should undergo a lung biopsy or cellular analysis of broncho-alveolar lavage fluid according to evidence-based guidelines
  • Implement updated clinical practice guidelines for the diagnosis of IPF
